NOTES:
By utilizing Community Outreach Coordinators embedded within the rural Sheriffs’ Offices in the Florida Panhandle, Northwest Florida (NWF) Health Network has been able to assist in diverting those with behavioral health needs away from the criminal justice system. By linking the community to resources, behavioral health needs are being met at earlier intercept points. This results in the reduction of the criminality of behavioral health issues.

NOTES: In part 2 of The 10 Code Mindset, we will raise awareness of who is around us. We will not necessarily focus on the safety aspect of situational awareness but on the inner awareness of how we become who we are around. Some of the most hindering and damaging aspects of a person’s mental health and mindset can come down to who they spend time with. Are you around people who bring you down or lift you? But we will explore how people are to you and how you are to yourself.

NOTES: Do you want to work in a place where you feel safe? At work, and in life, we should be able to live our lives where it is safe to take risks, to fail, to NOT be ok, and be able to ask for the help that we need it. To be able to voice concerns, question processes, and ideas. Sadly, too many places are stuck in the status quo. Everyone in an organization can create a safe environment through thoughtful, deliberate action.
NOTES: The topic of secondary/vicarious trauma and burnout has been discussed to death at this point for most people. Most professionals don’t need another “self-care” talk or another discussion of how burned out they are. Everyone has been through the thresher. At this point, self-care isn’t something you need to learn; it’s something you need to remember, something that all the hits and all the losses you experience each day make you forget.
CATEGORIES: Corrections, Leadership, Mental Health
NOTES: This interactive session will focus on the importance of collaborative leadership among custody command staff and medical & mental health administrators. It’s critical that all levels of a correctional facility’s operation work together to ensure the best care, custody, and control are provided to incarcerated individuals. Poor communication, a lack of collaboration, and conflict ultimately lead to poor safety, critical incidents, and adverse outcomes that lead to liability.

NOTES: We all knew that working to help homeless animals day in and day out would be challenging and emotionally draining; what we didn’t know was that those difficulties would be multiplied by a nearly constant barrage of attacks from people, both within and outside our profession. Those attacks can leave us feeling confused, angry, and isolated, and can have significant impacts on our physical and emotional well-being.
NOTES: Join us for this empowering webinar and take the first step towards transforming your mindset and unlocking your full potential. Register now and become a part of a community dedicated to growth, excellence, and positive change in the criminal justice field.
CATEGORIES: Ethics & Decision Making, Mental Health
NOTES: Have you ever spent your entire day making all types of decisions and then can’t decide where you are going to go to eat because it’s just too much? In today’s world, most people are at this point, but few know why. Decisions add to the physical, mental, and emotional loads that we carry. When decision fatigue hits, you can feel exhausted, overwhelmed, emotionally upset, or experience brain fog.

We will illustrate awareness and preventative strategies for human trafficking. Recovery and coping for the victim from trauma will be analyzed. We will wrap up our exploration of the complexities involving this vital topic. In each webinar, we will review indicators of human trafficking. This topic will be presented from a multidisciplinary approach.
CATEGORIES: Domestic Violence, Mental Health, Other
NOTES: Those who experience crime are not a monolith, and many victims of crime can experience multiple types of victimization. A one-size-fits-all approach leaves many victims, especially those experiencing intimate-partner violence, without the services and support they need. Service providers need to understand poly-victimization and how it impacts survivors’ experiences with the programs at all levels and work to find the right resources and support mechanisms to serve victims best.
NOTES: “Self-Care” had a promising start when introduced to the field. At its best, it attempted to acknowledge that the job is hard and we need to honor ourselves. Unfortunately, it has now devolved into a concept that, at best, is unattainable, and, at worst, makes you feel worse (the exact opposite of what self-care is supposed to do). This webinar will discuss concrete alternatives to “self-care” and address reasons why it can be a high-risk strategy for providers in the field.
NOTES: Every day, our brains play a soundtrack. At times, it’s our favorite jam, while other times, it can be nothing but a cycle of shame and insecurity. Many factors play into the soundtrack: relationships, mental health, ADHD, a lack of confidence at work, and more. The real question is, if we know these negative soundtracks will play, how can we hit the “Next” button before they cause us to spiral? During this session, we’ll dive into the soundtracks we play in our heads.
