Sometimes the only thing that makes us equal to a determined attacker is our ability to deploy an "equalizer". An equalizer can be a pistol, a blade, a rifle; or, it can be all three. Without the proper training though, these equalizers can be a liability to you. The more you sweat on the mat and on the range, the less you bleed in the streets! Very few people train on in-fight weapons access. This is a huge part of the class.
